Children’s parliament

Rauma Children’s Parliament (RLP), established in 2010 by Rauma Youth Services and local schools, promotes participation and influence for kids in lower comprehensive school. It offers a form of advocacy and provides statements to the city organization on local issues concerning children.   

Members of the Children’s Parliament are kids from 4th to 6th grade with two representatives from each school in Rauma area. The members get experience in age-appropriate forms of co-operation, democracy and influencing skills, helping kids to grow into active citizens who will shape society.  

The term of Children’s Parliament is 2 years, new period starting in autumn after elections. In the first meeting the parliament elects a president, vice president and a secretary. The Children’s Parliament holds approximately 6 meetings in a year and If needed, gives statements to the city organization.  

Youth Services has an assingned a worker who acts as a mentor and is responsible for assembling the Children’s Parliament.
